Scientists: Iowa must cut greenhouse emissions

This Reuters story datelined Des Moines today reports that Iowa scientists link recent yield-dropping droughts to climate change. The scientists call on Iowa, the nation’s leading corn and soybean producer, to lead in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the article, 138 scientists at 27 Iowa colleges and universities have released an “Iowa Climate Statement” that says, in part:

“The climate likely will continue to warm due to increasing global emissions and accumulation of greenhouse gases. Iowa should lead innovation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improve resilience in agriculture and communities, and move towards greater energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy.”
